Our MissionOur mission is to make it possible for first-timers to enjoy this magical sailing paradise by showing you 'it's easier than you think' We want to help you just as we were mentored early in our cruising experience. DedicationThis project is dedicated to Bud and Kathy Barrett, who were our mentors on that eye-opening first cruise back in 1991. Bud taught us all about "island time". This guide, however, is far too organized for Bud, who feels that any thing beyond the next cold beer is "long-range planning".

*Nautical Trivia: The saying "Cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey" has a nautical origin and has nothing to do with a simian or his anatomy. In the days of iron cannonballs and wooden ships, they used a tray called a "monkey" to enable them to stack cannonballs into a neat pyramid. The monkey was normally made of iron, but for special occasions they had a brass monkey. Well, if you understand that the coefficient of expansion is different for brass and iron, you can see how it could be cold enough to cause the iron balls to tumble off of the brass monkey. **Parrothead - Jimmy Buffet fan For you "parrotheads" out there... What Jimmy Buffet song specifically mentions a prominent harbor on Tortola and "the lights of St. Thomas"? The answer is somewhere on this website... |
